VENICE COMMUNITIES
VENICE
Venice is one of the few cities on Florida's west coast that is not separated from the Gulf by a barrier island. Construction of the Intracoastal Waterway in 1963 made an island of the Venice municipal and commercial district and helped maintain the growth pattern that coninues today. Preserving the original character of Venice, the city created the Historic Venice district and an Architectural Review Board to ensure that new construction or modification of existing buildings conform to the northern Italian Renaissance style of the city's original architecture. Designations as a Florida Main Street City by the State further assures the city's heritage will be preserved. Helping to preserve historic Venice, our office, built in 1925, is on the historic register.
SOUTH VENICE
Just beyond the Venice city limits to the south lies the area of South Venice. Located along US 41, known as the Tamiami Trail, it is a community full of shopping and light manufacturing. The area is also home to the Manatee Community College's South Campus and the Venice Health Park. South Venice is expanding rapidly and includes many new housing developments and golfing communities.
NOKOMIS
Venice's closest northern neighbor started as a fishing village and now has elegant residential neighborhoods, shopping and all the amenities of today's lifestyles. Nokomis stretches east from Casey Key to I-75 with many miles of shoreline along the gulf, the Intercoastal Waterway, Lyons, Dona and Roberts Bays.
LAUREL
Taking its name from the trees that once grew abundantly in the area, Laurel is a mostly residential community between Nokomis and Osprey. Laurel is growing rapidly while retaining its original relaxed atmosphere, an attractive place to call home.
OSPREY
Northernmost of the Venice area communities, Osprey is the oldest. History can be traced from Historic Spanish Point, through pioneer homestead buildings of the late 1800's to the early 20th century gardens of Mrs. Potter Palmer. Small businesses serve residents of comfortable older neighborhoods as well as an elegant golf club community. This is also the home of Oscar Scherer State Park.
